Patients treated with the drug tested negative for the genomic trace of the virus in lesser time, compared to those not administered with the drug. The drug was able to shorten the recovery time from 11 days to four days for mild and regular cases.
Another trial in Wuhan showed that the drug shortened fever duration from an average of 4.2 days to 2.5 days. Zhang said that Favipiravir has been effective, without any obvious side-effects, in helping coronavirus patients recover.

Fuji Film had no comment on the Chinese government’s announcement. The company produces Avigan only when the Japanese government provides orders and has no sales target, said a Fuji Film spokeswoman. The company’s shares increased by 15% on Wednesday morning after the announcement.

What can I expect after my COVID-19 house call?

COVID-19 House Call Follow Up Before the visit, I will call for a preliminary screening to go over your symptoms. At the visit, I will check your temperature, breathing, oxygenation, pulse oximeter, your speaking. For early detection in upper respiratory part of the disease, I do PCR. The lab tests for the virus in your secretions will indicate that you are contagious and need to be isolated for at least 7 days. I will need you monitor your symptoms and check in and report your symptoms every day with either myself or my assistant. Sometimes, I will be able to prescribe some medications and vitamins that I will need you to take. The second part of the illness is when COVID-19 goes down into the lungs and requires you to monitor exceptionally well. If your pulse oximeter reading goes down, we need to monitor the deterioration of the lungs and may need to go to the emergency room. If you have shortness of breathe, cannot talk and breathe at the same time, cannot breathe without coughing, please call me or go to the ER. If your symptoms fit COVID, know it is possible to still have the PCR come back negative and it is recommended by the WHO that testing is taken more than once. FAQ: Can I be tested? What will I need to provide when getting tested?

1. Who does the Center of Disease Control (CDC) consider eligible for the COVID-19 rapid diagnostic PCR test?
a) Anyone 65 years or older with cough, cold, fever, fatigue, or congestion
b) Anyone under 65 with cough, cold, congestion, fever, fatigue and with underlying conditions, such as:
- hypertension - diabetes - on steroids - immune deficiencies - cancer recovery - cardiac conditions - chronic lung disease - asthma 2. If I test negative from the PCR test, am I 100% in the clear?
No. You may need an ELISA antibody test to determine your immune response. Your body may have cleared the virus depending on the day you got the PCR test or you may have insufficient viral material in the specimen of the nasal sample, making the lab results detect a negative. A ELISA test will be able to detect certain immunoglobulins so we can track the progression of your recovery.

3. What do I need to provide to schedule my visit? Before coming to the visit, you will need a copy of both sides of your insurance card and your completed CDC PUI form provided by my staff. Please call 949-706-1212 to start the paperwork. The lab requires this paperwork and your insurance card with your sample so we kindly ask that you have it printed so I may drop off your sample directly after our visit.

4. What information do I need to fill out the forms?
On the CDC PUI form, you will need to report:
Page 1: Demographic info, name, DOB, phone number
Page 2: Symptoms and pre-existing conditions

5. What are the costs of the visit and lab tests?
The cost of a house call is usually $400. However, we are only charging $260 for COVID-19 house calls. The PCR lab test is $150 and the Antibody ELISA Lab Test is $150.

6. How can I pay?
You will need to provide a credit card with your paperwork. A Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flex Spending Account, may be used for expenses. We can provide you with a Superbill to provide to your insurance so that you can inquire about potential reimbursements. Your reimbursement depends on your deductible and plan. Tips on how to protect yourself if someone is sick with coronavirus at home.

The good news is over 80% of the patients infected with the virus have very mild illness and recover in around 4 to 7 days but they can shed the virus. Studies found the virus in nasal discharge, eyes, urine and even stools as some may have diarrhea. In the studies I've found online, average shedding is one week. It is a smart virus and spreads during the 2 to 14 days period to others. That is why we are all staying at home.

Orange County Mobile COVID-19 testing - Drive by or House calls

March 14th, we started testing for patients in our community for COVID-19.

No one was able to get the test at the public health, Quest, and the other labs were back logged results back in a week and had limited kits to give out.
